If you find these entertaining, check out Manuela’s own video titled, “Crazy Girl.” She is quite the character, isn’t she?  Can’t resist her adorable quirk.

I’m off to lay on the beach now, whoo hoo.  Hope you having a fantastic Labor Day Weekend!!!  (I have been seeing red white and blue EVERYWHERE… stay tuned for post of those photos???)

Oui Oui Québec | Part 2

A random mix of People Watching x Antique Shopping x Street Art in Québec City during the Les Grandes Feux Loto-Québec Festival this summer.  (And a little dog stalking as well, of course… Oui Oui.)

I desperately wish I could show you the whole breadth of everything going on during this week(end).  It really was a special family trip.  If I could only clone myself to be in all the places and do all things I have on my plate as of late.  Meaning, I have so much to share, just so little time to really finesse and get it all out there!  But I do hope you enjoyed this.

Oh, I may have purchased a few antiques that I am IN LOVE with.  Ok, maybe I’ll carve out time to do a post on those…hmmm.  In the meantime, stay tuned for Oui Oui Québec | WEDDING!

#WCW | Sirin Thada

My very first #WCW – Sirin Thada, and a very worthy one she is.

I can think of a whole smörgåsbord of adjectives to describe this phenomenom called social media (the good, the bad, and the ugly).  In this case, the good.  VERY VERY GOOD.  A few years ago I posted a pic on instagram during one of our fashion shows, tossed in the ever so excessive yet obligatory ####, and was introduced to a “liker” by the name of @sirinthada. I checked out her feed and fell in love with her sketches straight away.  Her fashion illustrations drew me in (see some below that she created for Alice + Olivia), BUT it’s her “series of silly drawings and cartoons (which I make just for you)” that have really captured my heart! Fresh, witty, quirky, twisted, open-hearted, and all totally relatable; wrapped with modern references and colorful delight.  I’ve pulled a few of my favorites, but I definitely encourage you to check out all of her work (scroll down for words from the artist and her contact info).

Hailing from NYC, here is a little excerpt from the artist herself

“My other main project is I Stole This From You — a collection of reader-submitted stories about your sentimental souvenirs, which I illustrate by hand.  When I’m not drawing, I can usually be found trying to keep my ass in shape for rock climbing, wandering with my camera, and sifting for treasure at flea markets.  For more information, please do not hesitate to get in touch! Drop me a line at:”

You can also buy her work on Society6 (which I just joined as well, gallery coming soon?). I am desperately looking to purchase a print of her “Tonight I Just Want To Make ART” to hang on my wall.

One day, Sirin.  One day we shall get together and make Collaborative ART. Yes?!?!  I’m just around the corner.  Xx, Your Art Crush

#MakeItGraphic | Series 5 – Eye See You

H(eye) there!  #MakeItGraphic | Series 5 – Eye See You, YEAH!!!  (Sorry…too much coffee?)

Kristin Aytona EYE SEE YOU header_small

When Emily (I spilled the beans, Em) and I first started #MakeItGraphic I had no idea what we’d be churning out.  Workday after workday, year after year, we’ve worked on the same brand.  And although we have different personalities and artistic styles that’s the thing about corporate art – it has to be a consistent voice.  We’ve pushed the brand and evolved it, sure, but it’s still within the same breadth. So I LOVE the gamut we explore with #MakeItGraphic.  I like the polar interpretations, I like that it’s totally OK to go left or right, up or down, it’s whatever we want it to be.  (Having said that, corporate art is not for the weak-hearted; you need a backbone, wishbone, and funny bone to survive.  There are a lot of levels and components to it, so if you happen to be successful at it, KUDOS to you.  Not many people know how much is involved behind the scenes of that :15 video, 1 page ad, or even a product display seen a million times a year.  But we get you….)

I went very literal with this week’s theme.  Trust me, you DO NOT want to see what I first started out with.  It was in the same vein of “contemporary art” that is a mess just to be a mess.  And I can’t support that, you know my feelings on that.  So I put down the exacto-knife and took a break.  My girl Manuela came over for another project I had in mind and somehow ended up blending the two.  I showed her these colorful boards that I’ve been hoarding, after 2 seconds of deliberation, she started putting on make-up and I started grabbing props.  Again, this is why I love collaborating with her!  Within an hour we had these shots organized, done, and edited down, and then she was off to Barry’s Bootcamp.  Of course, because she is such a character I WILL be sharing outtakes soon.

Emily (yes, her real name is Emily aka Skyler) went this route, and it had me cracking up.  She brilliantly merged “Eye See You” with “Eye See You(r) Imaginary Friend.”  If you don’t live in NYC, now you know, this is totally weird BUT totally normal.  If you have not sat next to a dinosaur on the subway without flinching you haven’t lived in NYC.  Click on the images for a closer view….

Pool York | Outtakes

Last Saturday I posted “Pool York” with Manuela Rana. We had such a good time that it would be a shame not to share some outtakes. No photoshop or filters here, she is THAT adorable!

We are actually playing around today with our cameras. What’s that saying?….Carpe that f’ing diem…:)

Your Everyday Object

I found this pic that I took at Numero 28 in the West Village (delish bruschetta btw). I remember how hungryyyyyy I was, so much that I started playing with the objects in front of me for my own entertainment — empty plate canvas, steak knife, a little Pinot Noir and voila — one hungry girl and her poorly makeshift shark masterpiece.  Going through my backlog of restaurant pics it’s very apparent that I like to play with my food; simple everyday objects.  Tomato and a straw. Pickles and toothpicks.  Etc Etc.

And then I found THIS guy (via Mashable).

“Artist Brock Davis doesn’t just rely on pen and paper to manifest his wit.  From fruits and veggies to googly eyes, the mediums that make up his extensive portfolio are endless.  One of his ongoing projects turns everyday objects into mini scenes and concepts. The photos are captured simply with his iPhone.

“Most of my friends were sharing photos of their kids and pets, which is cool, but almost immediately I was curious if it would be possible to take conceptual photos with my iPhone while staying true to the immediacy and spontaneity that is inherent with mobile photography,” Davis told Mashable.

Using an iPhone and Instagram, Davis enjoys being able to execute the process quickly, and maintain the candidness of both the image and idea. He often uses ambient, simple backgrounds, so the concept isn’t competing with busy elements.

“I always try to keep things simple and let the idea take precedence,” he says.””

My shark knife pretty much pales in comparison to his version.  He is literally creating foodporn for the eyes in the most minimalistic and crisp fashion.  Food, reimagined…I’m a fan!  Brock, can we grab lunch sometime???!!

I even love his (nonfood) creations.

Meet @Kendra10012

I was introduced to Kendra a few years ago through a mutual friend. We just recently reconnected and I have instantly fallen in love with her instagram feed. A self-proclaimed fan of fashion photography, her on-the-fly selfie shots exude that very je ne sais quoi.  She told me she loves taking pictures and although she has a camera she “hardly uses it, mostly the iPhone.” Looks good to me, besides, Chase Jarvis brilliantly said, “The Best Camera Is The One That’s With You.” Though I am determined to inspire her to carry around the other camera from time to time. Because you never know:)

Aside from the fact that she’s GORGE! here are a few reasons why I absolutely love this girl’s selfies —

i. the shoefie (in this instance, #thatbootie)

ii. the unapologetic designer shoutout selfie (hedi slimane is killing me too)

Screen shot 2014-08-20 at 2.30.34 PM

iii. one of my personal faves, aka the shadow selfie (shadows plus skateboards?
this is a girl after my own heart right here)

Screen shot 2014-08-20 at 2.36.49 PM

iiii. how she styles her blooms selfie (givenchy flower bomb)

v. the shoulder selfie (i must try this one)

Screen shot 2014-08-20 at 2.37.06 PM

vi. the sideways selfie (i see the camera loves her no matter which side)

Screen shot 2014-08-20 at 2.35.15 PM

vii. and an ultimate favorite, the black + white selfie

I have extended a friendly “Selfie Showdown” with Kendra. I’m not one for selfies when it comes to myself, so this is a good challenge for me. That’s the best thing about the creative community; being inspired by people to push you out of your comfort zone!  So stay tuned for a customized mash-up of our personal versions of “The Selfie.”
